News : Almost 800 Calls Made to Council's Emergency Contact Centre
Donegal, Ireland, Jan 26, 2016 -- A total of 771 calls were made to the Donegal County Council’s Emergency Contact Centre in 2015 new figures have shown.
These were revealed after Sinn Fein councillor Gary Doherty submitted a question to the monthly council meeting in Lifford which requested a monthly breakdown of calls made to the centre last year and the service areas the calls related to.
Joe Peoples, Director of Service for Housing, Corporate and Culture informed him that the council's Emergency Contact number was set up initially to deal emergency contacts in both roads and water services.
"New arrangements are in place for water services with the establishment of Irish Water. The contact number also permits the reporting of emergencies in our housing section. The contact centre has access to contacts for key personnel where an emergency response is required.

He added the council Roads section received 771 calls to the Roads Emergency Number during the course of 2015 were broken down as follows: January 134); February (33); March (55); April (18); May (21); June (25); July (44): August (60); September (32); October (28); November (129) and December (192). There were no emergency calls to the environment and housing sections during the year and the cost amounted to €2,400 per quarter plus VAT.
Mr Peoples added that emergency out of hours calls for housing services were very infrequent in comparison.
