News : Ammanford PHS Call Centre Staff Could Lose Jobs or Have to Relocate
Ammanford, Wales, Feb 26, 2016 -- Employees at a call centre in Ammanford could be set to lose their jobs — or relocate to Caerphilly.
Workplace hygiene supplier PHS is expected to make the cuts to staff at its Ammanford site, on New Road, which could come as soon as the spring.
This week PHS informed its colleagues at its Ammanford call centre it is considering the future of the site.
Ammanford county councillor Deian Harries said: "It's terrible for Ammanford — there's not much employment as it is.
"It is a real kick in the teeth. People spend money in town and live in town and they will be forced to look for work elsewhere."
After telling the employees the news on Monday, PHS has started consultation.
A PHS spokeswoman said: "This is as a result of recent changes that we made to simplify our business for our customers, resulting in fewer employees being based in Ammanford.
"We are proposing to move many of the roles to our head office in Caerphilly and to offer our employees the opportunity to relocate.
"We are currently discussing these proposals with our staff and no final decision about the future of Ammanford will be made until we have had sufficient time to consider all the options available to us."
