News : Another Fake Call Centre Busted
Pune, India, March 31, 2016 -- The city crime branch has busted yet another fake call centre based in Delhi with the arrest of four men who allegedly ran it using the name of a prominent bank and duped many people promising them loans.
Officials of the cyber crime branch were investigating a case filed by Hadapsar resident Altaf Saleem Sayyed, who was duped of Rs 50,000. The suspects had allegedly called him in December 2015 pretending to be from the loan department of a prominent bank and promised him a loan.
The suspects would randomly call their targets after acquiring their information from a web portal.
A team comprising senior police inspector Sunil Pawar and assistant police inspector Sanjay Thenge raided the call centre in Vikaspuri, Delhi. Police arrested Akashkumar Rajendrakumar Rathod (26), Dipanshu Maheshsingh Rana (23), Rakeshkumar Shribalrajsingh (30) and Vijay Ganeshsingh Hooda (21), all from Delhi.
Police said Rathod operated the call centre, while the others were employed as telecallers. Rathod hired unemployed and needy youths to work for him. The employees used to call people in different parts of the country and offer them loans.

The suspects would demand photocopies of PAN cards, Aadhaar cards, income tax returns, salary slips and other documents to process the loans. They would also demand cheques of different amounts as processing charges. They accepted cheques in favour of the bank to win the confidence of their victims. The suspects had similarly demanded a cheque of Rs 50,000 from Sayyed, an employee of a leading software company, who had sought a loan of Rs 10 lakh. Rathod allegedly wrote his name next to the name of the bank and withdrew the cash. Rathod is a graduate, while the other three are school dropouts who have worked with different call centres before. Police have seized telephones and dialler instruments used in the crime.
This is the fourth fake call centre exposed by the Pune cyber crime in last two months.
