Limerick, Ireland, Aug 14, 2018 -- Not one of the almost 18,500 Limerick asthma sufferers called the free Adviceline service during the month of June, the Asthma Society revealed this week.
Asthma Society CEO, Sarah O’Connor has called on people with asthma in Limerick to use asthma Adviceline to help them to better manage their asthma.
"More than 18,443 people in Limerick have asthma. We want people in Limerick to know about the free Adviceline service and to use the service so that we can help people with asthma feel well, keep their asthma under control, and live full lives, symptom-free."

The society’s CEO said that their asthma specialist nurses work through every aspect of life with asthma: what to do in the event of an asthma attack, answering questions after a GP or consultant appointment, dealing with triggers that may be causing asthma to escalate, and helping put together an Asthma Action Plan to self-manage the condition.

"Run in conjunction with the HSE, the free Asthma Adviceline has provided excellent outcomes for those who use it, reducing the time missed from school or work, and putting people in the driving seat with their asthma.
The CEO said that a survey held last year showed that 70 per cent of people under 50 who used the adviceline found it reduced the numbers of days they missed from school or work as a result of their condition and nearly 80 per cent of people who called felt more confident in managing their asthma after speaking to our nurses."
The Asthma Adviceline is available at 1800 44 54 64.
Callers can book an appointment by calling the free phone number between 09:00 and 17:00 Monday to Friday. A call-back appointment with an experienced specialist respiratory nurse specialist will be scheduled for a time and day that suits the caller.
