News : AT&T Cuts Back at Reno Call Center
Reno, NV, USA, March 25, 2015 -- AT&T is reducing the call center workforce at its Plumb Lane office in Reno as part of efforts to consolidate its operations.
The company confirmed the reduction on Wednesday after the Reno Gazette-Journal contacted AT&T for comment. More than 60 employees will be affected by the consolidation of the DSL support staff, the company said.
AT&T stressed that the Plumb Lane office is not closing and that other employees continue to work at the site. Reno employees affected by the consolidation will be given the opportunity to do the same work in Las Vegas or El Paso, Texas.

"Those who elect not to follow their work will be able to apply for other AT&T jobs," said Marty Richter, AT&T spokesman. "Any eligible affected employees who leave the payroll will receive severance."
The move follows a recent announcement by AT&T that it has invested in the Reno-Sparks area from 2012 to 2014 on its wired and wireless networks. Last year, AT&T hired 180 employees in the state, including nearly 50 people in the Reno area, Richter said.
"We are hiring in those parts of our business that are growing, including wireless, video, cloud services, sales and mobility applications," Richter said. "At the same time, we are reducing some jobs in the parts of our business that are declining."
