News : Barrie’s 911 Call Centre Will Soon Offer a Text Messaging Service
Barrie, ON, Canada, Nov 4, 2015 -- People who are deaf, deafened, hard of hearing or speech impaired (DHHSI) will soon be able to communicate with Barrie’s 911 call centre by text message.
Beginning on Nov. 10, a registered user who is DHHSI only needs to call 911 and the dispatcher will receive an indicator. The call taker will then communicate with the caller via text message.

The City of Barrie will be reaching out to community groups, including the Canadian Hearing Society and Deaf Access Simcoe Muskoka in the coming weeks to provide information about the service.
