News : BBMP to Have 4-digit Helpline on Communicable Diseases
Bengaluru, India, May 16, 2015 -- Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is planning to bring out a four-digit helpline number easier to remember.
The helpline number once functional will answer public queries related to communicable diseases.
Officials from Palike health department said that they have sent the proposal to the Palike Commissioner and that the decision was taken following the directions from the Health Minister U T Khader recently. Presently, the helpline number is 22975684 that operates from Dasappa Hospital, SJP Road.
According to the sources, Health Minister during the review meeting on control of communicable diseases with the BBMP suggested to create an easy helpline number similar to the lines of State Health Department’s toll-free number 1056. The health officials said that they are awaiting the approval of BBMP Commissioner for the helpline.
"The State government will not be involved in this and the number will replace the present number. People can call and enquire or report about Dengue, HI1N1 and other communicable diseases," said one of the senior health officials, who did not wish to be named.
While the Palike Commissioner G Kumar Naik was contacted, he said on Saturday morning he will look into the file submitted by the Palike health department.
Meanwhile, the present helpline number is working round the clock and the hospital staff said that the number of enquiries has reduced drastically. "While in the beginning of the year, we used to get more than 150 calls, all pertaining to H1N1, now we are not receiving much calls as the cases of communicable diseases has reduced," said Dr Latha, Pediatrician, Dasappa Hospital.
