News : Belfast Call Centre Firm TeleTech to Axe 95 Jobs
Belfast, N. Ireland, May 13, 2016 -- TeleTech is shedding 95 posts from its base at Duncairn Gardens.
It's understood staff at the contact centre hit by the losses have been told their jobs will go by the end of July.
The firm said the latest losses come after the company was "recently notified by one of our clients of their plan to cease operations" in Belfast.
The losses at the Colorado-based company come just weeks after it announced it was adding another 200 staff to its Northern Ireland workforce.
The firm provides customer service for a host of companies across the world, and despite cutting its workforce here, is still advertising to take on board new staff.
It's currently recruiting for multi-lingual call centre jobs on recruitment websites online.
A spokeswoman for the firm said: "TeleTech was recently notified by one of our clients of their plan to cease operations in TeleTech's Belfast contact centre in response to changing business needs.
"As a result, approximately 95 positions will be eliminated in our Belfast centre, effective July 31, 2016."
"The decision is in no way a reflection on the quality of work performed in Belfast and, in fact, the client has confirmed that the performance from our Belfast site was very good.
"Our employees are our top priority and we are committed to treating them with dignity and respect throughout this transition. Our main goal will be to look at re-deployment opportunities for impacted employees and we will be assisting them with making informed decisions about their careers."
The company has been operating at Duncairn Gardens since 2001. In 2014, TeleTech revealed it was cutting 197 jobs in Belfast, after the loss of a major contract.
It was revealed that a third of staff at TeleTech could be out of work after the company lost a major contract to provide European customer support services for the car maker Nissan
The contract has gone to the French company B2S.
One employee at the Duncairn Gardens site said workers were told they could take up employment with B2S, but it is thought that would involve relocating to France.
