News : Bengaluru Police to Launch Helpline to Tame Land Mafia
Bengaluru, India, Sept, 2018 -- The police department is going to launch a helpline to address land grabbing and extortion by rowdies in Bengaluru, city police commissioner T Suneel Kumar announced.
Kumar’s announcement came during a press briefing on a pre-dawn operation by central crime branch sleuths against 50 rowdy-sheeters in the city earlier in the day. About 100 personnel from CCB recovered original documents pertaining to 50 land parcels worth crores during the raids.
Sources privy to the raids conducted by 11 CCB teams said some of recovered documents had been pledged with the rowdies, while some had been forcefully transferred into the names of the history-sheeters.

Confirming that the recoveries indicated involvement of rowdies in real estate mafia, Kumar said they would go through the documents and book them under the Karnataka Land Grabbing Prohibition Act 2011. "We are going to book rowdy sheeters under The Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA) if we find them involving in any crimes, he added.
Twenty-three rowdy-sheeters were detained during the raids. High-end cars, money counting machines, pepper spray bottles and cash were seized, he said.
Police also seized demonetised currency of Rs 500 notes to the tunes of Rs 2 lakh from the residence of Mahesha alias Dadiya Mahesha.
"Mahesha has not given any explanation on how he came in possession of the notes. We will be informing and handing over the money to the authorities concerned," Suneel Kumar said.
"The drive against the rowdy sheeters would continue aggressively. We will be launching a helpline particularly to address land dealing and extortion of rowdies. As of now, the public can register their complaint by calling to 9480801555," Kumar said.
