News : BJP to Launch Helpline for North-East People in Distress
Margao, Jan 27, 2014 -- BJP North-East Sampark Cell will soon launch a helpline to help the people of North-Eastern states who are in distress. North East Indians staying in Goa and willing to join the Cell may send a text message.
Fernandes, who was recently appointed on the national executive committee of the BJP North-East Sampark Cell, told TOI that the cell strives to strengthen the emotional bonding between people of other parts of the country to that of the North-East.
"North-Easterners should be treated as "equal partners" and benefit from the fruits of independence and development as it marches along the road of becoming a world super power," Fernandes said and urged the North-Easterners not to fall prey to the separatist elements fomenting trouble in the country.
A get-together of the North Eastern Indians staying in Goa was recently held in Panaji with the national Convener of the North-East India Sampark Cell of the BJP Sunil Deodhar guiding the participants.
Addressing the gathering, Deodhar said that the North-East had so much hydropower potential that if harnessed it could abolish the total power deficit of the country. However the region that could export power was itself in darkness because of the rulers, he said, adding that about 40,000 tons of high grade uranium was lying untapped in the Khasi Hills of Meghalaya.
