News : Blood Helpline in State on Cards
Bhubaneswar, India, Dec 24, 2015 -- The State Government has decided to set up a Blood Helpline to assist people requiring blood during emergencies as well as connect needy patients with blood banks and donors.
A directory of donors with their blood groups will also be prepared to add teeth to the helpline. Any person requiring blood can call the helpline to get information of availability of blood at the bank in his area.
In the initial stage, people with rare blood groups will be registered and the helpline would be operational soon. A regular calendar would also be maintained for blood collection.
The decision was taken during Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s review of functioning of blood banks and strengthening of infrastructure in the State. It was revealed that voluntary blood donation is on an upswing with around 3.65 lakh units collected this year by November. Voluntary donation account for 45 per cent of the number.
