News : Bloomington Police Department Steps Up Call Center
Bloomington, IL, USA, April 27, 2015 -- The Number to Know Campaign has been taking command throughout April’s 911 Awareness Month, and the Bloomington Police Department has been leading it.
This national campaign is designed to help regional, state and national 911 authorities and organizations to speak together to remind civilians that they are open and available in any case of emergency.
The Bloomington Police Department is going the extra mile to make sure that the community knows its call center is open.
The department wants to remind people that if they are unsure of what should be done in an emergency situation, it is always best to dial 911.
According to 911 Communications Manager Darren Wolf, the telecommunications team is trained to differentiate emergencies from non-emergencies, respond accordingly and even walk callers through medical emergencies as needed.

Last year, the call center answered over 25,000 local calls.
"Whether it’s childbirth or giving CPR to somebody… They can do all types of things to help you until the paramedics arrive," Wolf said.
