News : Blue Cross Blue Shield's Quincy Call Center to Trim Workforce
Quincy, IL, USA, October, 2016 -- Blue Cross Blue Shield is offering about 100 full-time employees at the Quincy call center a "voluntary separation plan" that offers benefits.
"The health care industry is going through major changes, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois is no exception," said Colleen Miller, a spokesman for the insurance giant. "To succeed in today's health care marketplace, we must continually evolve and quickly adapt to meet our customers' needs and expectations."

Company officials would not confirm or deny reports that the separation plan involves full-time workers who are at least 50 years old and have been with the company for at least 15 years. One person with knowledge of the plan said employees accepting the offer could get up to one year of salary and six months of health coverage.
Workers at the call center have either not responded to interview requests or declined to be identified. Miller said the company is "not discussing the details at this time" out of respect for employees who are making personal decisions.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, owned by Chicago-based Health Care Service Corp., announced last year that it was eliminating some jobs and would outsource routine claims processing.
