News : People Out of Work After Sudden Closure of Call Assistant
Logan, UT, US, Jan 29, 2015 -- Nearly 100 people are now out of work after the sudden closure of Call Assistant in Logan. Its 98 employees came into work on Jan. 22 to discover that the call center was being closed immediately and everyone was being laid off.
According to a letter sent out to employees, the call center’s closure was necessary "due to a companywide restructuring as a result of recent unforeseeable customer and economic losses incurred by the company." The letter goes on to say that due to these events and the company’s efforts to raise additional capital, the company was unable to provide more advance notice to employees.
Call Assistant provided inbound and outbound call services for various companies. It was one of three companies — Call Assistant, Strategic Fundraising and SFI NonProfit — collectively known as CASFI. In addition to Call Assistant being closed, a branch of Strategic Fundraising in Springfield, Missouri, also closed Jan. 22, leaving over 200 employees without jobs.

According to a press release from the corporate headquarters in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the decision to close the center was a difficult one but necessary for the continued operations of the overall company. The release went on to say, "Our staff in Logan has performed very well on behalf of our clients and it is truly with great regret that we announce the closure of this location."
Call Assistant employees, who wished to remain anonymous, said that there was no warning, rumor or even a hint that the branch was going to close. The employees were given their last two weeks’ pay plus any paid time off they had. Most were unclear whether they’d be receiving any additional compensation or benefits.
Employees said that while losing a job is definitely hard, what is even harder is the loss of the sense of family the employees had with each other. One employee said that he had a rough time in high school making friends but always felt welcome and accepted among his co-workers.
