News : Call Center Company Startek Hosts Job Fair
Conway, SC, Jan 30, 2014 -- A call center company that is expected to bring over 600 jobs to the Grand Strand hosted a job fair at the SC Work fore Center in Conway.
Startek, which provides customer support services, last month announced a plan to build a new call center in Carolina Forest. The company will be hosting a job fair at the SC Works Center, located at 200-A Victory lane.
The job fair was initially delayed due to the inclement weather.
The company started taking applications online in December and more than 1,500 people responded. The first 30 hires will be announced February 27.
If you're wondering if you're cut out for a job at Startek, experience from fast food work to hospitality is what the company is looking for.
"We're looking for folks with customer service experience. You don't have to have call center experience," says HR manager Kim Kinkade.
Representatives say base pay starts around $9.50, plus incentives for entry-level jobs. Higher-paying positions such as supervisor, support and human resources are available. Kinkade says they often promote employees within the company. There are still plenty of ways to apply.
"We will have applications for a long period of time. We won't hire all eventual 600 right up front; it will be a slow transition so they can continue to apply online and we'll make contacts from that application source," says Kinkade.
You can also apply in person at the SC Workforce Center in Conway.
The Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation says hiring hundreds of positions will take place over the next two years.
