News : Call Center Could Bring Jobs to Old K's Merchandise Site
Rockford, IL, Sept 5, 2014 -- Plans are afoot to open a call center in the old K’s Merchandise building on Mulford Road near East State Street.
New Jersey-based ServiCom plans to move into the 25,000 square foot renovated space by Dec. 1. The business will employ nearly 500, according to First Rockford Group.
"It’s huge," said Sunil Puri, president and CEO of First Rockford. "The jobs they will bring to Rockford will help put our people back to work."
The jobs will pay close to $11 per hour and offer benefits, he said. There will be about 50 professional, technical and managerial positions offering higher pay. The call center would provide technical support for a cable and telecommunications company. Puri said the number of jobs could grow to closer to 1,000.
"ServiCom chose Rockford due to the demographics and strong employee base in the area," Jarrett Dunaway, a broker with Mohr Partners, Inc., said in a news release.
As part of the development process, the Winnebago County Board granted $150,000 to First Rockford on Thursday for repairing the parking lot of the old K’s Merchandise.
More details on the call center plans are expected in the coming weeks.
