News : Call Center Denies Measles Outbreak Among Workers
Feb 27, 2014 -- A call center company in Bacolod City denied reports saying there is an outbreak of German measles among its workers.
Rubella, also known as three-day measles or German measles, is a disease caused by a virus called togavirus. The symptoms of its victims include pink-red macular rashes; mild to high fever; and cold-like symptoms like cough, runny nose and nasal congestion.
PanAsiatic Solutions-Bacolod general manager Siony Hijara called for a press conference with City Health officer Dr. Grace Tan and in-house doctors from Intellicare to clarify the issue.
Dr. Grace Tan said that there is no confirmed outbreak of the German measles among the call center agents.
She said they have validated the reports by providing the employees with case investigation forms. Tan, however, said the official confirmation should come from the Department of Health and not just from the City Health Office.
Hijara said the company has already activated its precautionary measures, adding that they are set to provide their 3,000 employees with vaccines if the health authorities will confirm that some of them have the viral infection.
"PanAsiatic is implementing a three a three-pronged approach as part of its usual emergency preparedness to ensure that the numbers do not go above the usual number of cases," Hijara said.
The strategy include the dissemination of right information, education and communication to all concerned; a more intensified engineering and housekeeping procedures; and increased personal hygiene and protection.
