News : Call Center Opens in Downtown Hamilton
Hamilton, OH, USA, July 14, 2015 -- The call center StarTek Inc. opened Monday in downtown Hamilton in the first phase of renovated office space, and plans are for the business services company to add more employees to the location as construction work is completed, said Mike Dingeldein, executive director of the CORE Fund.
StarTek opened in the former Elder-Beerman building at 150 High St., which is now owned by CORE Fund, a nonprofit created to invest in downtown and Main Street area development. The CORE Fund now owns about 25 Hamilton properties it hopes to restore.
Before Monday, the building had sat empty since the department store closed.
There’s room for the first 35 to 50 StarTek employees to work in the approximately 15,000 square feet of space that’s finished so far, Dingeldein said. The Colorado-based company leased an entire floor of about 40,200 square feet and the larger remaining space is still being renovated, Dingeldein said.
"It was a very aggressive build out, but that was important they got up and running," he said.
In total, StarTek is expected to create approximately 682 new jobs in Hamilton. When plans were first announced in February that StarTek would open this year, it was believed to be the city’s single biggest announcement for new job creation in at least a decade, according to Hamilton’s economic development department.
StarTek provides business process outsourcing services such as customer care, sales support and order processing in the United States, the Philippines, Canada and Honduras.
Scott Farmer, the local site manager for StarTek, could not be reached for comment, but the company’s Facebook page shows pictures of the new space.
Meanwhile, renovations are also underway for the building’s other signed tenants: Joslin Diabetes Center at Fort Hamilton Hospital, Jackson Market and Deli, and Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities art initiative InsideOut Studio.
