Rome, GA, USA, Aug 3, 2016 -- SYKES Enterprises formally announced plans to locate a customer contact center at 25 Legacy Drive in the Berry Corporate Center Wednesday.
The company intends to hire the first 100 employees fairly quickly and grow to between hire on between 300 and 500 employees, said Senior Vice President Jack Egan at the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce.
Egan said the company chose to locate its newest call center in Rome because of its people and potential workforce.

"Eight to ten years ago and before that you had to look at technology and fiber, sometimes people were second because you had to have the infrastructure," Egan said. "Now we can get the infrastructure anywhere. (Now) first and foremost its people, second its people, and then it would be a building or infrastructure."
Chamber of Commerce President Al Hodge said the first contact with SYKES came during a Partners in Prosperity financed recruiting trip to Montreal in 2015.
The company plans a large recruiting fair at The Forum in downtown Rome.
Egan said people go online to get information and fill out initial applications.
He said some job offers are likely to be extended to applicants on that day.
Job training is set to begin in mid-September and Egan said that the customer contact center would probably start normal operations six to eight weeks later, meaning sometime around the first of November.
Typical customer service jobs will initially pay in the $10.50 to $12 an hour range. Egan said management level positions could go well into the $40,000-plus range.
