Nicosia, Cyprus, April 9, 2020 -- A call centre has been set up for those who cannot use the 8998 SMS service to obtain permission to leave the house under the stay at home decree.
The deputy ministry for research, innovation and digital policy said the new centre can be used only by:
- those who have a foreign telecommunication provider as the SMS service does not support messages from non-Cypriot numbers
- members of the public who have difficulty obtaining permission through the SMS service
The service will be available from 6 am to 9 pm in Greek and English as follows:
For Cyprus numbers: 80012012
For non-Cypriot numbers: +357 22 263030
The call centre will service calls only from mobile phones through an automated IVR (Interactive Voice Response).
Those requesting permission through this service will receive a reply by SMS on their mobile phones.
Only one such permission is given every day, irrespective of the method used.
Citizens bear personal responsibility for the accuracy of the information provided to the call center and shall be liable for false statements.
