News : Call Centre Jobs to be Created in Peterborough
Jan 15, 2014 -- About 200 jobs are expected to be created by furniture and homewares retailer IKEA at its call centre in Peterborough.
The Swedish-based company is expanding its customer contact centre at Kingston Park in Fletton and is recruiting for customer service co-workers.
The centre, which also has a distribution operation, is the primary point of contact for all IKEA customers.
Debra MacLean, IKEA’s UK contact centre manager, said; "The contact centre has just completed the first year in a three year transformation agenda. To continue to grow we need to meet our customers in the best way possible, in whichever way they choose to shop with us".
"The key to our success is to have a strong, inclusive, value based environment to create our very own great place to work.
She added: "To have the IKEA UK&IE contact centre, driven by exceptional people and delivering excellent customer service is our vision."
Recruitment will get underway in earnest at The Job Show in Peterborough next month.
Victoria Clarke, director of The Job Show, said: "We are delighted IKEA have chosen to be an exhibitor once again at The Job Show with their big recruitment drive it can only be good news for our show and the city of Peterborough."
John Bridge, chief executive of Peterborough Chamber of Commerce, said: "Any job creation is welcome and is a sign of confidence in the Peterborough economy."
The news from IKEA comes as the jobless rate in Peterborough is on the decline.
According to the latest figures available from the Office for National Statistics, the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in Peterborough in November was 4,225 - which is 3.5 per cent of the working population.
It is a drop of 650 people on the claimants figure for the previous month.
