Amsterdam, Netherland, July 19, 2018 -- The number of call centres in the Netherlands has more than doubled over the past, according to the Trade Register of the Chambers of Commerce (KvK). The number went to 768 on 1 July of this year from 769 in 2015. For the first half of this year, the increase amounted to 17 percent, with 112 more companies.
The rapid growth came mainly from North and South Holland. However, the greatest call centre density is in Flevoland, with one call centre per 10,000 residents. Zeeland has the fewest call centres: 0.078 per 10,000 inhabitants. For the Netherlands as a whole, there is half a call centre per 10,000 inhabitants.
The Chamber of Commerce defines call centres as places that provide telephone or email support to companies. This can include market, satisfaction and accessibility research, telephone answering services, agenda planning and making appointments for representatives. They accept bookings and reservations and support for example in recruitment and selection.
Among other facts: 7 out of 10 call centres are run by freelancers while more men, and young men, start call centres.
