News : Call Centre Relocated for Efficiency
Jan 24, 2014 -- The Fiji Police Call Centre has been relocated to ensure complaints against police and service are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner.
The call centre is now located at Police Headquarters at Vinod Patel Plaza at Laucala Beach and is now under the Director of Internal Affairs Unit.
The Acting Commissioner of Police had re-established the Fiji Police’s Internal Affairs Division on 15th November 2013 to address grievances regarding services provided by the organization.
The Internal Affairs Division was first introduced on the 1st of October 1991 with the initial intent of conducting investigations on serious allegations against police officers apart from other supporting roles they were assigned to.
Heading the Unit is Senior Superintended (SSP) Luke Navela, who is currently overseeing the operations of the Call Centre where members of the public are being encouraged to call 132 777 or 9905 922 if they have any complaints.
Previously the issue of complaints against police and complaints against service was dealt with at the divisional level by the Divisional Police Commanders, however due to the increasing number of complaints received from members of the public, the Acting Commissioner saw it fit to re-establish the central unit at Headquarters.
Under this new realignment all complaints lodged with the call centre will be dealt with immediately by the head of the Unit and his officers.
The Unit will be responsible for investigating all reports on a case by case basis and ensure the complainants grievances are dealt with accordingly.
SSP Navela and his Assistant Superintendent (SP) Shiri Bhawan can also be contacted directly as the organization strives to improve service delivery.
The Acting Commissioner stressed the importance of relocating the Call Centre to a strategic location as complaints against the organization continue to be a contentious issue.
