News : Call Centre Set Up in Mumbai to Rescue Stranded Animals

Mumbai, India, Aug 21, 2018 - Activists here are in touch with volunteers in Kerala to help rescue animals stranded in the floods and have even set up a call centre.

Activist Anand Siva said more than 500 animals in distress, including dogs, cats, cows and snakes, were attended to in the past few days. Siva said the call centre number is +91-9167466569. "We have volunteers on-site in Kerala, attending to rescue calls of all kinds of animals," Siva said.

He said volunteers had even been called directly.

"We have put into action boats, rafts, kayaks, ferrying trucks and ambulances," Siva said. "Puppies and kittens are being taken to secure places and fed. Vehicles from Pune and Bangalore are on their way with supplies and food, with more dog-handling and rehabilitation teams going this week. A large animal ambulance with crane and pulleys is on its way from Pune to Ernakulam."

Activists and citizens were urged to come forward for the cause of animals by pooling in funds, which the Humane Animal Society in Coimbatore is administering.
