News : Call Centre to Monitor Covid-19 Home Quarantine Patients

Kota Kinabulu, Malaysia, Sept, 2021 -- The Home Monitoring Call Centre (HMCC) to provide guidance and counselling to Covid-19 patients in Category One and Two under home quarantine has been reactivated.

State Community Development and People's Well-being Minister Shahelmey Yahya said the main purpose of the centre is to call patients to monitor their health condition and also to calm down their anxiety.

"I was told this centre was the first in Malaysia which was opened in October last year. Until today, they have called up more than 8,000 patients," he told the media after visiting the centre located at Wisma Muis in Sembulan here.

The centre was reactivated last month.

The centre opens daily from 8am-5pm to assist home quarantined Covid-19 patients living in the locations of Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Keningau and Putatan, said Shahelmey.

The centre is manned by two doctors, a matron, two nurses and 20 volunteers from the Malaysian Red Crescent Society and the Sabah Social Welfare Department.

"The services provided by the centre are one of the state government's efforts to look after the welfare of the people.

"The volunteers will monitor the progress of the patients regularly and they will be sent to the nearest hospitals if they are experiencing health complications," said Shahelmey.

On those wearing home quarantine wristbands and spotted walking freely in public places, he said: "Those wearing wristbands should not go out. Although the Health Ministry has an enforcement team, I think the public should also play their role to discourage these people from being outside of their home.

"We advise them to be more responsible for themselves and the society at large because they risk infecting other people.

"Although there have been suggestions to empower community leaders to apprehend those for flouting the home quarantine order, we are short of manpower."

On a special motion to manage the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and health-related matters in Sabah to be jointly submitted by the Kadamaian and Luyang state assemblymen at the coming State Legislative Assembly sitting, Shahelmey said the state government, for the sake of Sabah, would look into the motion to see how it can improve the healthcare system.

He said as of Aug 31, about 59 per cent of the adult population in Sabah have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine while 40 per cent have completed their second dose.

"We expect to see a jump in September as Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has announced that several states will receive more vaccines this month.

"I am pleased to be informed that today we have received 750,000 vaccine doses, meaning that we can optimise all the vaccination administration centres (PPVs) in Sabah.

"We expect to dispense 60,000 vaccine doses a day. We urge all the people to come for the vaccination as the government has provided the PPVs and also the rural outreach programme.

"We need full cooperation from everyone to achieve herd immunity by end of October," he said.
