News : Call Volumes Increase for Wiregrass 2-1-1
Dothan, AL, USA, Nov, 2017 -- Wiregrass 2-1-1 Call Center is experiencing an uptick in calls from those hoping to fill needs in the community.
"This week and next week we will continue to see an increase in our call volume," said Wiregrass 2-1-1 Executive Director David Duke. "One reason for the increase in calls is the Toys for Tots Program. This Friday is the last day for parents to qualify for Christmas assistance through that program. Our goal is to keep everyone informed of all services and assistance programs that are available."
Calls are also coming in regarding assistance needed during the Thanksgiving holiday, Duke said.

"Unfortunately, not everyone will gather with family this Thanksgiving for warm meal," Duke said. "That’s when our call center becomes the spokesperson for the community. If someone is hungry this Thanksgiving, one of our call specialists can inform that caller where to go for a meal. If someone is homeless and they have nowhere to go for shelter, there again, our call specialist can assist them with that need. We want everyone to know what services and assistance program are available."
Wiregrass 2-1-1 also provides information about physical and mental health, employment services, support for older Americans and persons with disabilities, and support for children, youth, and families. The center also provides crisis information assistance such as shelters, food distribution centers, and state and federal assistance.
"Over the years, we have helped so many individuals connect with their needed resource," Duke said. "Now, in return we are seeing several of those we helped want to give back by volunteering. What better way to give back to the community than to help those in need. For anyone wishing to volunteer this holiday give us a call. We have a complete list of locations in need of volunteers this season. Maybe this year, instead of over eating on Thanksgiving, why not volunteer to serve food at a shelter or soup kitchen."
