News : Canon Call Center is Open and Hiring
June 19, 2014 -- The first 30 people are on the job at Canon Information Technology Services‘ new call center in Albuquerque, which opened its doors this month.
The company plans to hire 30 more people by year-end, and another 75 next year as it ramps up to 150 employees, said Jay Lucado, director for customer support at company headquarters in Virginia. Lucado was a guest speaker at Albuquerque Economic Development‘s quarterly luncheon on Thursday.
The company, a subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., announced plans last fall to open a 34,000-square-foot call center in the north I-25 industrial corridor to provide technical support to customers for products such as digital cameras, camcorders and printers. AED helped recruit the company to Albuquerque, and has provided ongoing support to set up operations.
"I’m thrilled to say we opened on June 2," Lucado said. "With help from AED and the city, county and state, we were able to get up and running in just seven months. Up to 250 people can now be accommodated at the new center, so we’re poised for growth."
Leean Kravitz of Fidelity Investments also told luncheon participants that her company is now actively seeking 150 new employees at its Mesa del Sol facility.
The company announced in early June that it would ramp up its workforce by a total of 200 people this year, bringing the facility head count to 675. It hired 50 people this spring, and it’s now recruiting workers through job fairs and online.
