News : CenturyLink Call Center in Boise Lays Off 28, but Hire for Different Jobs
Jan 31, 2014 -- The CenturyLink call center in Downtown Boise will close its Consumer Financial Services department and eliminate the department's 28 jobs in late April.
The reason for the layoffs is that CenturyLink plans to handle those collections and payments calls at offices in St. Paul, Minn., or Phoenix, Ariz., according to Sheri Davis, a CenturyLink media representative. Davis said the employees whose jobs are affected can follow their jobs to those cities or apply for other jobs in the company.
"It's just an ongoing effort to remain competitive and reduce our cost structure," Davis said.
CenturyLink currently has about 660 employees in Boise. It is taking applications for 80 new employees to handle customer service calls, Davis said. Those new employees will start in February and March.
