News : CenturyLink to Cut 59 Jobs at Carlisle Call Center
South Middleton Twp., Nov 6, 2013 -- A CenturyLink spokeswoman said the company will lay off 59 employees from its call center off Walnut Bottom Road.
Debbie Keyser, spokeswoman with the company, said there are 59 affected employees, and the layoffs will effective Jan. 17, 2014.
The affected jobs will be from the CenturyLink Offline center and the Click-2-Chat center. Keyser said the same group of people work in both departments, but serve two different functions.
Keyser said the layoffs were made as a cost-cutting move for the company, which she said is looking to "remain competitive" and reduce its cost structure.
"The bottom line is that multiple locations are doing the same work, so we’re consolidating our call centers to be more effective," she said.
Keyser said distribution of the work functions will go to other centers in the company. Affected employees will have the opportunity to apply for other jobs within the company, although severance packages will also be offered.
