News : CGI to Create Over 600 New IT Jobs in South Wales
London, Oct 20, 2014 -- CGI (TSX: GIB.A) (NYSE: GIB) announces it will receive funding from the Welsh Government to help support the creation of 620 new jobs over the next five years. The new roles will be based in the local authority area of Bridgend County Borough, South Wales where CGI currently employs around 900 people and is the largest IT employer in South Wales.
CGI delivers a range of outsourcing, application services and infrastructure services to clients across the UK from South Wales. The funding will aid with CGI’s growth plans in developing new solutions based on Secure Government and Commercial Cloud technology, development of its new Security Operations Centre and expanding its current service desk and support teams. CGI will also be introducing a new testing service for delivery of products and services, as well as continuing its work to develop mobility solutions, healthcare and smart metering technology.
The 620 jobs created by the funding will include a variety of entry-level and skilled roles including:
Service desk analysts
Technical design architects
Edwina Hart, Minister for Economy, Science and Transport added: "CGI is an important employer in South Wales and is committed to continuing to develop its workforce in the region. Today’s announcement is excellent news for the community with 620 new highly skilled jobs that will yield knock-on benefits for local businesses and the wider community. I look forward to continuing to work closely with CGI to support its contribution to the Welsh economy."
CGI is recognised by the Welsh Government as an important contributor to the continued economic development of Wales. In July, CGI was awarded Anchor Company status and received significant funding from the Welsh Government’s Skills Growth Wales programme, to assist in the continued development of CGI’s skilled workforce in Wales. The funding is being used to train new employees and up-skill current members.
