News : Charter Staffs More Than One-third of Texas Call Center
Stamford, TX, USA, July 5, 2017 -- Charter Communications announced it has filled 250 of some 600 jobs planned at its new call center in McAllen, Texas.
The new positions comprise part of the telecommunications company’s plan to hire 20,000 employees in the next four years by returning call-center jobs from overseas to the U.S., insourcing operations and growing to meet customer demand for its services. Spanish-speaking customers have traditionally been served by outsourced call centers, often outside the U.S., according to Charter officials.
"Our new McAllen center reflects our deep commitments to craftsmanship and diversity," Greg McMichael, Charter’s senior vice president of customer service, said in a statement. "Through this center of excellence, we are providing the best possible experience for Spanish-speaking customers while creating hundreds of new career opportunities for residents of the Rio Grande Valley."

Charter plans to operate the center with more than 600 employees when the facility is fully staffed in early 2018.
Representatives at the center are bilingual and handle service calls in Spanish for Charter’s Spectrum TV service, according to Charter officials. In the coming months, representatives will start handling service calls from Spectrum Internet and Spectrum Voice customers, as well as billing questions, eventually serving Spanish-speaking customers across the company’s 41-state service area.
"It takes a lot of communication to make great business happen, and the McAllen Spectrum call center exemplifies great communication and strong teamwork from all entities involved," McAllen Mayor Jim Darling said in a statement.
Charter’s headquarters are located at 400 Atlantic St., in downtown Stamford. As the company continues to grow, it is exploring a relocation of its main offices within Stamford, Hearst Connecticut Media learned last week.
Charter announced in May a partnership with Comcast to support their participation in a national wireless marketplace, a deal that quelled much of the speculation in recent months about a potential merger involving Charter and Verizon.
