News : Child Helpline to be Launched in Schools
Dec 25, 2014 -- The district administration has ordered the education department to launch a 24-hour child helpline '1098' in all private, aided and government schools of Ludhiana district. The decision was taken during a meeting of 'child protection society' on Tuesday.
The helpline will not only provide aid to students regarding school issues, but also address their safety issues and will help them solving their personal problems too.
"Be it school, study, family problem, something related to society or any kinds of help, students could seek help through this helpline. We have started sending mails to the schools and after winter vocations will send reminders too," said deputy district education officer (primary) Dimple Madaan.
She further shared, "Schools will have to make this awareness a part of the assembly and seminars too. They will have to tell students that they can share their problems on this helpline number. This is a 24-hour open helpline number."
Deputy DEO Dimpal Madaan said, "Some students hesitate to share their problems with teachers or family members and it may affect his or her performance or they may even take to drugs. Hence the child helpline will help them address their problems."
Counseling facility will also be provided if needed.
"Suicide cases are also increasing among students. If teachers identify some symptoms or feel if any student needs counselling, the facility will also be provided," said Dimpal Madaan.
