News : Children's Hospital Shuts Down Nurses Hotline
St. Louis, MO, Jan 1, 2015 -- It was a place where worried parents could get answers when their children were feeling sick. Now, St. Louis Children's Hospital has shut down its nurses line, 454-KIDS.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports at its peak in the late 1990s, the hotline took about 90,000 calls a year. Last year, there were about 12,000 as more parents turn to the internet and mobile apps with medical questions, or work directly with their pediatricians.
A spokesperson for the hospital says nurses who worked on the hotline will be transitioned to other jobs within BJC Health Care's call center and no jobs will be eliminated.
St. Louis Children's Hospital now has an app called Kid Care that is available on iTunes that can answer any questions parents might have.
