News : Citizens Advice Cardiff & Vale Brings 35 Consumer Advice Jobs to Barry
Carediff, Wales, Apr 11, 2017 -- A consumer Advice call centre has been officially opened in Barry, creating 35 jobs and making it one of seven in England and Wales.
Citizens Advice Cardiff & Vale, based in Broad Street, Barry, won a successful funding bid after it competed against other local citizen advice centres.
Funds have been secured to provide the service from the Barry offices and the centre, already in operation for two weeks, was launched on Friday, April 7.
The centre will provide an expert consumer advice service by telephone, email and web form to clients across England and Wales.
It will also be the provider of the Welsh Language Consumer Service with the ability to deal with issues relating to energy and post for Welsh speakers.
Director of operations for the national citizens advice bureau, Michele Shambrook, said Barry would be providing the service which could offer advice on consumer, debt and employment issues.
She said: "I’m happy about that and the job opportunities for people in Barry. First class advice can be provided here and we are going to have a good working relationship with trading standards."
Chief executive of Cardiff & Vale citizens advice, Jane Clay, added that they were "delighted" to offer the service in the town, adding: "It’s going to bring 35 jobs to Barry."
Helpline advisers can give practical and impartial advice on how to resolve consumer problems and inform, those who make contact, about what laws apply to particular situations.
They can also pass complaints on to Trading Standards.
