News : City Eyes Regulation of Illegal Call Centers
Iloilo City, Philippines, Feb 16, 2015 -- Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is eyeing to include in an executive order the regulations on illegal call centers that proliferate in the internet shops in the city.
Ben Palma, of the Task Force on Internet and Gaming Center, Anti-Piracy and Pornography, said the mayor’s executive order will augment the full implementation of Regulation Ordinance 2001-185, which regulates the internet shops and to give more teeth and strengthen the task force in regulating the computer shops.
Palma said illegal computer shops became call centers in the evening and are operating without the required business permit from City Hall.
With this, the Task Force on Internet and Gaming Center, Anti-Piracy and Pornography was instructed by Mabilog to investigate the illegal operation of Altered Link at PCJ Porras Bldg. in Dolmax Subdivision, Barangay Camalig, Jaro district, and the Quoth Call Center at Rosary Bldg. in Iznart St., city proper.
Palma said the amended executive order to cover the operation of call centers was not yet signed by the city mayor. Similarly, there is no existing ordinance yet regulating the operation of call center.
Palma said they wanted separate business permits for the operation of internet shops and call centers.
He also said that they are looking closely on the pesonet operation in the villages, adding the gaming stations must secure a barangay clearance and execute an affidavit of understanding that minors are not allowed to play during the school period.
The pesonet gaming station must also secure a business permit, he added.
