News : CM Directs Officials to Assist Women Through Helpline 181
Dehradun, India, Aug 10, 2016 -- Ahead of the launch of centrally sponsored helpline 181 for women, chief minister Harish Rawat on Wednesday held a meeting with top officials of woman organizations to discuss methods for its effective function and proper utilization.
While briefing officials, including chief secretary Shatrughana Singh and principal secretary Radha Raturi, Rawat said that if women were unable to make use of the centrally and state sponsored welfare schemes, they may register their queries on 181 to seek assistance.
"Being first of its kind, helpline 181 will be formally introduced within a week and will help women understand various schemes like monthly pension for women above 60," the chief minister said.
Rawat asked the officials to ensure that all queries and complaints are resolved properly as "women welfare is state government's topmost priority."
Chief secretary Shatrughana Singh said the exact date for the launch of the helpline is yet to be ascertained but will be immediately activated in the state once it formally begins.
Senior official who were present in the meeting told TOI that the chief minister asked them to connect helpline 181 to previously launched helplines for women like 1090 and 108.
"Once all women-related helplines are linked with the upcoming helpline, complaints on atrocities against women will also be resolved," said a 52 year-old woman activist Sarita Rawat.
Sources said that the chief minister also asked officials to develop a system wherein calls made to any helpline will be automatically transferred to the helpline concerned for timely justice.
Rawat said state government will soon launch helpline 181 in different panchayat and civic bodies to help its benefit reach rural areas also.
Meanwhile, members and office bearers of most of the women social organizations like Mahila Mangal Dal (MMD) have hailed the launch of the helpline. "If this new helpline is properly introduced in the state, it will help transform the life of women here," said 34-year-old office-bearer of a woman social welfare organization.
