News : Consumer Complaints Surge in Ramadan: Ministry
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, June 22, 2016 -- The Ministry of Economy has been flooded with complaints by consumers reporting offences by dealers since the start of June mainly because of the extended work hours during the fasting month of Ramadan.
The Ministry has received nearly 1,600 complaints through its consumer contact centre, around 13 per cent higher than the figure recorded on normal days.
"The increase was due to the extended work hours in the centre. We also normally receive more consumer complaints during Ramadan," said Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director, Consumer Protection Division at the Ministry.
He said the complaints involved post-sale services in electronics and auto parts, adding that there were no reports about any hike in food prices.
Nuaimi said the Ministry was pursuing inspection visits to all shopping outlets to ensure they stick to prices set for Ramadan, adding that 210 such visits have been conducted by the Ministry’s inspectors in the first-half of Ramadan.
