News : Convergys Layoffs Loom in North Carolina
Greenville, NC, Jan 21, 2016 -- Cincinnati-based customer management software provider Convergys has notified the state of North Carolina that 163 jobs may be cut in Greenville.
According to a notice filed with the N.C. Commerce Department, business with an existing client ends April 9, a situation "with the potential" to impact the Greenville contact center.
"We are working diligently to place employees in other site programs and to replace the departing client with a new client or clients and are confident in our ability to place many employees in other comparable positions," the notice, filed by Edward Applegate, human resources business partner of Convergys (NYSE: CVG), reads. "However, at this time we are unable to say with any certainty how many employees may be ultimately affected."
The notice was filed Jan. 14 and was received by the state Jan. 20.

Company spokeswoman Brooke Beiting says employees "in good standing" will be given other opportunities at the site, based on availability. She wouldn't name the departing client, citing confidentiality agreements, but did say no other facilities would be impacted, and that the Greenville contact center would continue to have about 250 employees.
The news comes on the heels of reports by the Cincinnati Business Courier, a sister publication, that two federal lawsuits were filed against Covergys last year.
So far, companies have filed five layoff disclosures with the state of North Carolina, potentially impacting 1,416 jobs in 2016.
