News : Cooper Visits New Call Center
Nash County, NC, USA, Nov 21, 2018 -- The State Employees’ Credit Union is bringing 160 jobs to Rocky Mount with its Member Services Support Center.
Gov. Roy Cooper, speaking at the call center's grand opening, said it was great to be home in Nash County.
"One hundred and sixty good-paying jobs — that's good," Cooper said.
The cell center took over an old PNC Bank building on Hunter Hill Road.
After taking a tour of the call center, Cooper headed to Wilson to help distribute Thanksgiving turkeys to people impacted by Hurricane Florence.
Mayor David Combs said it’s great seeing an empty building being re-used, especially when it means economic expansion in Rocky Mount.
Combs thanked the credit union for its investments in Rocky Mount.
"We're pleased to be here," said Mike Lord, CEO of the credit union.
SECU's expanding footprint in Rocky Mount includes three branches. The call center will provide 24-hour support to customers.
"The call center will be the backbone center for the entire state," Lord said.
"Some business outsource their call centers, we're in-sourcing it," Lord said. "We're thinking about job opportunities for North Carolinians."
SECU hires for careers, not just jobs, said Bettina Thomas, the credit union vice president in charge of the call center. She's been with the business since she graduated from college. Lord has worked for the credit union for 43 years.
The call center opened early this year and has been adding staff since.
