News : Council ‘Has a Word' with Call Handlers on Fly-tip Hotline
Croydon, England, Sept 14, 2016 -- Croydon residents have been told they will be able to report fly-tipping by phone despite being told to inform the council about dumped rubbish online.
The council's chief for 'Clean Green Croydon', Stuart Collins, has promised to ensure call handlers on the fly-tipping hotline take calls about waste left in the street.
This is after people were being redirected to the council's website or its smartphone application, My Croydon, leading to frustration.

He met members of the Thornton Heath community and the council's waste collection contractors Veolia to hear their concerns about how to tackle the issue of fly-tipping in the area.
After the meeting, Cllr Collins told the Advertiser: "The hotline has always been open, it may be that because the council has moved to going more digitally online, I think members of the call centre got used to trying to encourage people to use online facilities.
"But we had a word with the staff there so they should be saying it is ok to use the phone line. The key issue is just to get it reported."
Residents were concerned that people, in particular elderly residents, would not follow up on the suggestion to log on to the council's website to report dumped waste.
Croydon was recently dubbed the 'fly-tipping capital of the south east due to an increase in rubbish being dumped illegally.
The Streets Breakfast, hosted on September 8 at the Holy Saviour's Church, in St. Saviours Road, was organised to allow staff from Veolia, residents and the council to have an open discussion about waste collection.
