News : Government Urged to Create National Call Centre
July 13, 2014 -- The Contact Centre Association of Zimbabwe has urged government to consider the setting up of a national call centre for the provision of relevant information on tourism and social services in line with regional trends.
The centre, whose objective is to promote customer service excellence and promotion of customer rights says there is need for the country to promote customer service through the creation of a national call centre by government.
The association’s executive secretary, Mr Rinos Mautsa, says while there has been a remarkable growth in call centres in the country, there is need for government to come up with relevant framework and policy to support the growth of calls centres given their importance in job creation.
ìIt is important to highlight two factors that are important. First is that the vast majority of call centres in Zimbabwe are in-house call centres and other independent centres only serve a domestic, not an international market," said Mr Mautsa.
Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa and other African nations have set up a government national call centre, an initiative which has created thousands of jobs and raised prospects for international investors.
According to the call centre report released by the association, the country has the potential to become a global call centre hub with a potential to create over 50 000 jobs within the next 5 years if given full attention and government support.
