News : Customs GST Hotline Jammed with Queries
Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, March 29, 2015 -- The official GST Unit Call Centre hotline has been swamped by callers dialling its main number on enquiries about the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Several attempts to call the hotline number 1300-888-500 did not yield a ringtone most of the time.
Calls to the Customs Department’s main line 03-88822111 were rather futile as well.
Both numbers are opened from 8am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays.
Customs director-general Datuk Seri Khazali Ahmad confirmed the heavy congestion and said measures were being taken to address the problem.
"Starting April 1, we are extending the current operating hours of the hotline to 10pm everyday.
"In addition to that, we are also setting up a helpdesk at our headquarters which the public can call with enquiries from 8.30am to 10pm on weekends," he said when contacted.
He also said the helpdesk number would be announced soon.
Other GST-related contact numbers like those by the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry and the National Consumer Complaints Centre were reachable.
