News : Cwmbran Call Centre Takes on 110 Staff
Cwmbran, Wales, March 19, 2015 -- A Torfaen call centre unveiled as part of a major recruitment drive last year has taken on more than 100 staff since January, figures reveal.
First Minister Carwyn Jones announced that more than 1,100 Welsh jobs would be created on the eve of an international investment conference last November - with more than 300 posts to be delivered at a new call centre in Cwmbran.
Griffin Place Communications, which runs the centre in Ty Gwent, Lake View, said it had already recruited 110 staff.
The company said the telesales agents would deal with sales and customer care for big insurance companies and financial institutions.
Some of the recruits were unemployed people referred to Griffin Place Communications by Torfaen Training, which is run by Torfaen council.
The Labour led council said nine out of the 12 jobseekers sent to Griffin Place Communications had gained employment at the call centre.
A Torfaen council spokesman said: "Griffin have been fantastic in giving opportunities to local people with no experience in this kind of work and I have seen long-term unemployed people from very varied backgrounds and young people who have had difficulty getting first opportunities enjoying and succeeding in a challenging environment."
The 12 jobseekers had been enrolled on the Government’s welfare to work scheme known as the Work Programme.
They benefited from a training induction which lasted four to five days after which time Griffin decided whether or not to offer them a job.
Griffin previously said it offered its staff a basic salary of up to £14,00 plus weekly incentives and uncapped commissions every month.
Griffin Place Communications added they would have the opportunity to progress to more managerial positions owing to the vast growth of the company in the next few months.
Griffin managing director Steve Wigg said: "We are delighted to work with Torfaen council and to be recognised for our training excellence."
