Modbury, Australia, April, 2019 -- More than 1000 people are employed by IT company Datacom Modbury base, blowing its early employment projections out of the water.
A Datacom spokeswoman said the IT training and call centre, which opened in March last year, had exceeded its initial goal of employing 680 people in its first two years.

The spokeswoman said more than 1000 people were already working at the centre, in the former Tea Tree Gully TAFE buildings.
"(New staff) are now permanently engaged in meaningful work with Datacom so they have more income to support their families and inject back into the local economy," the spokeswoman said.
"Our model is focused on skilling people for their new careers and providing opportunity for people to grow into the jobs of tomorrow."
Tea Tree Gully Council Acting Mayor Damian Wyld said the northeast was experiencing a local employment boom, with a new restaurant precinct at Tea Tree Plaza, the redevelopment of Modbury Hospital underway and the Helping Hand aged care home in Golden Grove to soon be opened.
