Pune, India, May 4, 2018 -- A team of 20 medicos have launched a pan-state health information helpline to help patients with healthcare services. The state-level call centre called Aahilya Health Helpline, aims at doling out timely advice to patients and a free ambulance facility. The service will be formally launched on Friday by deputy director of health services Pune circle Dr Sanjay Deshmukh.
The toll-free telephone will provide the callers with information about the service providers in government and private sectors, clinics, diagnostics and curative institutions along with their location, address, working hours, distance from the caller’s residence and other details. The doctors have teamed up with 150 organisations working in healthcare.
One of the team members, Dr Rohit Borkar said, "People from all over the state with ailments can call the helpline. We can direct them towards treatment, to some private sponsors or trusts that work with the specific diseases."
Borkar added that there are several schemes through which people can get free treatments in the hospital run by a charitable trust or local body. "We can help them with this. Several people don’t know the various processes for availing free treatments form the government. We will also arrange free-of-cost campaigns in rural areas. Patients, who have been diagnosed here, will be sent to government hospitals," he said.
Another doctor from the team, Dr Rutuja Patil, added that they will be providing free ambulance service for which they have assigned five of their vehicles. "Citizens can also get doctors-on-call facilities and free advice in case of emergencies. There are various government schemes and insurance policies, which people have difficulty claiming. We will guide them through the call centre," she said.
Patil added that they have tied up more than 200 chemist shops across the state. "Patient can call us if they want a cheaper drug from the prescribed costly drug and we can guide them to a shop in their vicinity. The chemists store will be also informed about the specific drug and confirm its availability. Other facilities like yoga centre and rehabilitation centres will also be shared with the patient," she said.
