News : East Hartford PD Answers All Calls in 10 Seconds or Less
East Hartford, CT, USA, Jan 14 2016 -- The East Hartford Police Department was the only call center in the state to answer every 911 call from June 2015 to September 2015 in 10 seconds or less.
As a Public Safety Answering Point, East Hartford receives 911 calls at all times and dispatches emergency services or transfers 911 calls to other agencies. There are 98 answering points in the state for 169 municipalities and of these, East Hartford was the only call center to receive each call in 10 seconds or less.
According to data from the state Division of Statewide Telecommunications, the department answered 100 percent of 911 calls in three rings or less.
"The East Hartford Public Safety Communications Division answers over two thousand 911 calls every month," Deputy Chief Beau Thurnauer said. "This dedicated group of individuals receives calls for help from our community 24 hours a day, seven days a week."
Thurnauer said that in most quarters the department has answered 99 percent of calls in 10 seconds or less.
"This achievement is a testament to the hard work the men and women of our agency demonstrate every day," Thurnauer said.
Thurnauer also attributed the department's success to town officials making public safety a top priority.
"Give thanks to Chief Scott Sansom and Mayor Marcia Leclerc for ensuring the best telecommunications equipment is available to these employees, Thurnauer said.
