News : EE Creates 300 Jobs with New Derby Call Centre
June 11, 2014 -- EE is continuing its drive to hire more UK customer service staff with the opening a new call centre in Derby that will create 300 new jobs for the city.
The operator announced plans earlier this year to bring 1,000 call centre roles back to the UK from overseas call centres. The latest news follows the establishment of a call centre in Derry in May which also created 300 jobs.
The Derby call centre will be managed by outsourcers Webhelp UK, which manages a total number of 6,500 staff. The recruitment process for the Derby site is already underway and it will open later this month.
EE currently employs 9,220 customer service staff with most based in the UK, and a smaller number in the Philippines and India.
EE chief executive officer Olaf Swantee says the strategy of creating more UK customer services bases is performance-related with domestic call centres’ performance ‘exceeding’ those based overseas.
The firm has also announced that it is tripling the size of its apprenticeship programme that will see it recruit more than 1,300 young people by the end of 2015.
500 young people have already completed the operator’s apprenticeship training and it says it is committed to offering the majority of participants full-time employment.
