News : EMRI 108 Ambulance Staff Launch Strike as Talks Fail
Hyderabad, India, May 14, 2015 -- The EMRI 108 Employees' Welfare Association has gone on indefinite strike across all 10 districts in Telangana from Wednesday midnight, hours after their final round of talks with the GVK-EMRI management in the city failed on Wednesday evening.
The strike by the association, comprising ambulance drivers, call centre executives and emergency technicians, is set to affect hundreds of critically injured patients from accessing its services to reach hospitals across the 10 districts free of cost.
An estimated 1,600 patients are ferried to different hospitals in Telangana every day by a fleet of 316 ambulances including 43 that cater exclusively for Hyderabad.

"None of our 15 demands were accepted by the GVK-EMRI management during our final round of talks mediated by T Ajay, joint labour commissioner of Telangana. So, we are forced to go on strike now," said Ashok Palle, working president of EMRI 108 Employees' Welfare Association. It may be recalled that on May 8, the first round talks too proved inconclusive.
Besides job security, the association sought salary hike, ex-gratia to the kin of deceased employees and reinstatement of 70 sacked employees among others. Sources said that TRS Workers' Cell president Roop Singh too represented the case of the workers before Srinivas P, national head (HR) of GVK-EMRI management during the talks held in the labour commissioner office.
