News : Fayetteville Call Center to Lay Off 226 Workers
Fayetteville, N.C., Dec 4, 2014 -- A Fayetteville customer call center approved for incentives two years ago says it plans to lay off more than 200 employees.
The Fayetteville Observer reports Sykes Enterprises told the N.C. Commerce Department this fall that it would lay off 198 customer-service agents and 28 other employees effective Dec. 11.
The Tampa, Florida-based company won city and Cumberland County tax incentives when officials announced in November 2012 that they would come to Fayetteville with an initial employment of 150 and a goal of at least 500.
It wasn't immediately clear how many will continue to work at Sykes after the layoffs.
The N.C. Housing Finance Agency announced that it has mortgage foreclosure money available to families affected by the impending Sykes layoffs.
