News : Florida Attorney General Taking Stance Against Telemarketing Scams
Southwest FL, USA, July 13, 2015 -- The Office of Florida’s Attorney General is being flooded with cases of phone scams. It’s a big reason as to why they are running a social media campaign this week.
Tweets on Pam Bondi’s Twitter page have been coming in all day. One said, "If it’s being pitched in a robocall, it’s likely a scam."
You maybe thinking you don’t have to worry about it because you’re on the Do Not Call list. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.
The Florida Department of Consumer Services received more than 1,300 Do Not Call complaints in June alone. That’s the largest type of complaint the department received.
Consumer services shelled out more than $500,000 for Do Not Call violations.
It’s often hard to catch the robocallers. New technology often hides the real number of the call. That new technology also allows the crooks to dial up to 1,000 phone numbers per minute.
It’s still important to register with the Do Not Call list because it keeps legitimate businesses accountable.
